Nobody Is Getting Out of LinkedIn Alive
You Are Going to Die. LinkedIn Forgot to Mention That.
I said it. Read it again.
Not the platform. Life. You are not getting out of this alive. Neither am I. Neither is the person who just posted their 47th “humbled and honoured” caption this week.
I spent years inside the corporate machine before I built what I build now: advertising, agencies, boardrooms, the whole ecosystem. And I know its ethos intimately. It’s not evil. It’s just… a closed room with its own weather system. Inside that room, everything is appreciated like a connoisseur tastes wine, as long as it serves the shared god of productivity. Your worth gets measured in how well you fuel the brand, the product, the profile. That’s the deal. Nobody signs a contract for it, but everyone quietly agrees to the terms.
And that’s exactly why LinkedIn sounds the way it sounds. Wannabe. Performed. A little bit fake, even when it’s technically true. Because the room only rewards one emotion here: the low hum of “am I ahead, or am I behind.” That’s the whole game. Whoever tells you they don’t feel it is either lying to you, or lying to themselves. I’d bet on the second one, honestly. It’s the more human option.
So here’s your unsolicited reminder, from someone who left that room to build something slower and truer:
None of this, the deal, the title, the follower count, the carefully worded post, is coming with you when you go. Not one bit of it. And you ARE going. That’s not morbid, that’s just biology and reality.
You were not born to win a productivity Olympics. You were born a magical, breathing, feeling creature, dropped into a planet full of beauty you barely have time to notice because you’re too busy proving you deserve to be here. One deal is not going to make you. One job loss is not going to break you. I promise you that.
So if you’re mid-spiral over something work-shaped right now, a rejection, a comparison, a “why is their version of success louder than mine,” I want you to physically exhale. Right now. Drop your shoulders down from your ears.
And then go build something real. Outside the likes. Outside the “connections” who only know your job title. A phone call to someone who knew you before you had a LinkedIn profile. A walk with no content strategy attached to it. That’s where the actual counting happens.
You’re allowed to relax. No one is getting out of here alive, so you may as well enjoy the ride while you’re still on it.
